The spiritual component of salvation is really obedience to His Will, the changing of the spirit from within. When we were deceived through Adam and Eve, the spirit of Lucifer came into us which is the spirit of disobedience. So, whatever it is that you choose and shatter your innocence will become dominant in you.
In fact, when you renew yourself every year, it will not last because there is no power in you, trying to do good and be good, unless there is a divine intervention of the power of God coming into you, and you surrender to His Will.
