"St. John's Night on the Bare Mountain" an orchestral piece written by Russian composer Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky in 1867 A.D. Inspired by Ukrainian novelist Nikolay Gogol’s short story “St. John’s Eve.” Mussorgsky did not live to see his composition published and passed away in 1881 A.D. Mussorgsky's contemporary Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov took on his work and completed Night on the Bare Mountain, rearranging the score and publishing it in Paris in 1887 A.D.
