Learning to talk to your kids

Our children keep us very active. One opinion about kids that runs through my mind a lot is that there are no professional parents. But as active as we are with our children, I would definitely state I am a professional when it comes to my children. I know their likes and dislikes, what makes them mad and how to pick on them. And I know when I've possibly gone too far and hurt their feelings or even times when I'm the bad example. It took a couple of years early on to recognize the fact that the way we interact with one child cannot necessarily be replicated to our other kids and each child has his or her own unique triggers that can set them off or open the doors to their hearts. Even though I know them very well, as they grow older and become young adults, recognizing them as individuals and not just “my child” is a new learning experience. It appears this is an extremely difficult bridge to overcome, and many parents struggle with connecting to their children as they become individuals.
