There are several Stream Deck models. There is the original Stream Deck, the larger Stream Deck XL, the Stream Deck MK.2, and this one, the Stream Deck+ which is currently available for £198.99. I use it on my Mac but it also works on Windows.

Everything you need is in the box - the panel itself, a desktop stand, a USB cable and a user manual. Build quality is first rate and this feels like a classy and high-end piece of kit.

It is larger than Stream Deck and Stream Deck Mk 2 and features 8 large backlit LCD buttons, a wide touchscreen swiping strip and four rotary dials. All the buttons and dials are fully customisable, giving access to application specific shortcuts, websites, and operating system functions and features. It can initiate specific actions, chain actions together or run routines. It is fully customisable and you can quickly set up your own dedicated shortcuts. There is not much it cannot be programmed to do. Dedicated sets for different applications can be downloaded from third party developers and I installed one from SideshowFX for the Da Vinci Resolve video editor.

The panel looks fantastic, and the Stream Deck is easy to set up and program. However, I find the eight key panel to be too restricting when using the Da Vinci Resolve video editor and prefer the Contour Multimedia Controller to speed up my work. The DVR set I downloaded works well and has a host of features incorporated into but due to the eight button limitation, it is necessary to use multiple nested icon sets to reach specific functions, which I find confusing, hard to remember and more trouble than it is worth. Even when I use the Stream Deck+ in conjunction with my Stream Deck Mk 2 I still find it more trouble than it is worth. For me it is quicker to use the Contour device for essential shortcuts and mouse and keyboard combinations for the rest. But that is just me.

In fact, use the Stream Deck + as part of my usual routine for web browsing and general day to day computer use. I like the way a single button press can open a group of websites together or chain together operating system functions. It has greatly speeded up getting my daily tasks done. For example, I have one screen configured to allow me to quickly and easily select the microphone and speaker combination I need and the rotary controls to vary the volume and gain.

This is not a cheap product but it is well made, looks fantastic, is very versatile and I guarantee it will transform the way you use your computer. Once you have you will not want to be without it. Despite the high price and my own limited use of it I still think this is a must have product.
