Today’s NRFI Picks For July 17 with Kelly "Kelly in Vegas" Stewart

NRFI Prediction 1: Rays vs Rangers (-115)
We should have a playoff like atmosphere in Arlington tonight as Dane Dunning and the Rangers welcome in Shane McClanahan and the Rays for a three-game series starting tonight.

Yes we’re well aware of how great both offenses are this season but out of the gates the pitching and defenses should be clamped down.

The Rays lefty hasn’t allowed a first inning run in five straight and 15 of 17 overall starts on the season. Dunning has been great in the first inning as well holding opponents scoreless in eight of his 12 overall starts.

The Rangers only allowed nine total runs in their three-game sweep over the Guardians with the Rays only allowing 11 in three games against the Royals so it looks like pitching and defense are both locked in for two of the three best teams in the American League. First pitch for this Rays vs Rangers matchup is at 8:05 with odds for a NRFI listed at -115.

NRFI Prediction 2: Nationals vs Cubs (-122)
It’s been 16 games since the Cubs have scored in the first inning as we ride that streak in to their game tonight taking on the Nationals.

A pair of lefties take the mound in MacKenzie Gore and Drew Smyly with Gore not allowing a first inning run in five straight and 14 of 18 total starts on the season.

Smyly has been just as good overall not allowing a first inning run in 13 of his 18 starts as the Nationals haven’t scored in the first in four straight.

At home the Nationals have scored 0.77 runs per game in the first inning but that drops all the way down to 0.46 runs per game in the first inning when playing on the road.

This game will be at Wrigley Field as it hasn’t really mattered where the Cubs have played this season when it comes to first inning scoring. They’re second to last in first inning scoring overall across the MLB on the season.

These two have already played four times this season with two of them going to a NRFI. None of those four games had a more than seven runs scored in them though. Play on a Nationals vs Cubs NRFI tonight at -122 with first pitch at 8:05pm ET.
