Although FTR, as research continues, this place never HAD a formal name. Shame. So 10 Mile Ranch is my moniker, not registered with the state of Montana and rating the bare definition by tradition and existent land & infrastructure. Hasn't been formally worked in many decades although has quite a history for farming, cattle and other livestock. But a situation where I knew people with that name and not quite 100% aftertaste.

The next generations (again as I understand) are the family of my landlord. A grandfather's homestead further down the valley was mentioned, too. Think they owned most this valley, now except for bottomland farms is surrounded by Custer National Forest.

YEAGER (my spelling) was the original 1883 homesteader. And that date is only from clarifying the age of the cabin; may have been here awhile beforehand. (Damn. Would love to have seen the other 2/3 of the original now gone.) 21 Questions with landlord is problematic and trying to keep a low profile on snooping. Cabin moved on a concrete foundation (with 5 ft high dry, cement basement as well. Good fallout shelter x for the 50 tons of lumber that would trap anyone!). Renovated utilities. Wondrous foot-thick "shaved" logs (meaning the curves were sliced off for sort of vertical walls) all rough and natural with the original adze and axe marks clear.

DAMN GOOD INSULATION. 68 sweater weather inside while near 100 out. Until mid summer like now, the logs have an inherent chill left over from winter but, according to landlord, also heats them up in reverse.

BTW DISCLAIMER: I type very fast and TMI backgrounds/notes a curse unless interested. Stopped making excuses for that over on YT. History author as well and this area is brimming with it; point is a lot of data now gets jammed into video comments for later harvest.
