The 1980s. The Decade of Decadence. A Decade of Renaissance for the Rock and Heavy Metal Genres. Some would partake in Heavy Metal Civil War. Thrashers vs. Hair Metal, Hair Metal vs. Punk, Rockers vs. Everybody. We all had one thing in common. Headbanging, parties, boozin’ and debauchery. Back when my GenX 4th Point of Contact partied with my friends, we’d have code names for the places we partied.

During the week at school or around the adults, names like, Machinery Hill, The Rings & The Dutch Ovens were a mainstay. We thought we were hot shit. But our parents knew where we’d be. Better to party in a safe place with a big group of people than end up on the back of a milk carton was the logic of us all back then.

Best girls, best cars, best music, we had it all in the 1980s. On a Friday night, you always had a place to party. From sneakin booze into the drive ins, the movie theaters, pool halls, and arcades to cruising and hanging out at some random lake or farmer’s field. There was always a place to party. And party we did.

And on the speakers, metal. But when the girls were around, you played the popular tunes. You played what was popular on MTV or VH1. And when the girls were dancing and having a good time, that kept the party going. The guys didn’t want to party in a sausage fest. Fuck that noise! No girls at the party, go to one that has them there. That was our mentality!
