Gunshots shattered the icy night air at Nanga Parbat base camp, jolting the climbers from sleep. Taliban militants stormed the camp, capturing the terrified mountaineers and their guide. One by one the attackers led them out of their tents and executed them point blank—an American, three Ukrainians, two Slovaks, a Nepali, a Chinese citizen, a Pakistani.
