Former US Marine Freed by Russia Injured in Ukraine Fighting, Putin Looking for More Soldiers?

Ukraine has claimed that its forces have destroyed one of Russia’s Ka-52 helicopters over the past day. However, Ukraine didn’t specify exactly where its troops shot down the Russian helicopter. Kyiv said that its air defences also downed five Shahed-136 loitering munitions and two reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Meanwhile, Russia claims that its forces have shot down a Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopter over the past day. Russia said that its troops destroyed 10 HIMARS rockets and shot down 22 Ukrainian UAVs over the past day. A former US Marine who was released by Russia in a prisoner swap last year has been injured while fighting in Ukraine. Trevor Reed was treated in Kyiv for his war injury and then evacuated to Germany for medical care. The lower house of the Russian parliament has passed a bill that raises the maximum age for mandatory military service from 27 to 30. The new legislation, which comes into effect on Jan 1, means men will be required to carry out a year of military service, or equivalent training. According to TASS, the new legislation will also apply to “Russia’s new regions”, i.e., the occupied parts of Ukraine. The UK has warned that it has information indicating Russia’s military may start to target civilian shipping in the Black Sea.
