How to tell if a cat is playing or fighting.

Cats are playful creatures, but it can sometimes be hard to tell if they're just playing or if they're actually fighting. In this video, I'll show you some of the signs that can help you tell the difference.

Body language:

Playful: Cats that are playing will often have relaxed body language. Their ears will be pointed forward and their tails will be wagging. They may also make soft meows or chirps.
Aggressive: Cats that are fighting will have tense body language. Their ears will be flattened back and their tails will be held high. They may also make loud hisses, growls, or yowls.
Intensity:

Playful: Playful fights are usually short and relatively gentle. The cats may chase each other, wrestle, or bite each other lightly.
Aggressive: Aggressive fights are longer and more intense. The cats may scratch and bite each other hard. They may also try to pin each other down or even hurt each other.
Turn taking:

Playful: Cats that are playing will usually take turns being the "aggressor" and the "defender." This means that they'll both get a chance to chase, wrestle, and bite each other.
Aggressive: In aggressive fights, one cat is usually the aggressor and the other cat is the defender. The aggressor will usually be trying to dominate the defender.
If you're not sure if your cats are playing or fighting, it's always best to err on the side of caution and break them up. You can do this by clapping your hands, making a loud noise, or spraying them with water.
