@ 217 foot pounds of muzzle energy, can this 38 Special cartridge pass muster? We put it to the test with a meat target and chronograph the rounds out of the Ruger LCR with its 1.9” barrel—stay tuned to the end for a retest of the chrony results, the round is more consistent than the initial test results indicate.

The Winchester Defender cartridge is at least an updated box, and possibly a modest redesign of the venerable PDX-1 defensive loading, which in turn is merely a rebranded Ranger law enforcement round. Recoil is quite manageable even out of the 13 oz LCR, but the round performs like a much more powerful load!
In short, this is on my short list of recommended carry rounds for J-frame and J-frame style concealed carry revolvers.
