Chapter 12: An Inductive Proof

A philosopher or mathematician may mistakenly believe that people can be persuaded by deductive logic and a deductive proof. It is very rare that someone has ever been persuaded of something new by a deductive proof. Rather, a person is first persuaded by trusting the person who did the deductive proof or by already trusting the conclusion of the deductive proof beforehand. A deductive proof can rarely be used to persuade someone of something they don’t already believe and trust. A deductive proof usually just confirms and provides confidence in something that is already known. The way that we learn and can be persuaded of something new is through inductive arguments. All science is done in an inductive manner, not a deductive manner. Science takes specific experiments and generalizes the results. We see the results of a specific experiments as evidence, we trust the principles we obtain from them, and we have faith that that those principles will logically predict an accurate result. Sometimes that predication is accurate and we gain further trust in the principles. However, there is always the chance that we can logically make a prediction that turns out to be inaccurate. Sometimes we would need to then reevaluate the principles. However, many times we might still trust the principle is correct and try to figure out which of our assumptions was wrong that caused the apparent contradiction. We can evaluate the evidence of prophesy in the same way we can evaluate the evidence of an experiment. All experiments must be analyzed to determine the limitations of the devices and the corresponding experimental uncertainty. After all the information has been analyzed, a best answer is given with it corresponding level of precision or uncertainty. Some results are very precise or focused, whereas other results may be less precise or vague. Past experiments serve as evidence for predictions of future experiments. Prophesy that was fulfilled in the past serves as evidence for prophesy predicted to be fulfilled in the future. The gospel of Matthew goes step by step to use the evidence of prophesy to prove that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Jewish Messiah. The Jewish prophets recorded prophesy in the past, which can be researched to determine whether they were accurate about Yesuah (Jesus). The level of precision would correspond to how likely it is for such prophesy to be accurate about a person.

Matthew 1:18

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 7:13-15

Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,

Matthew 1:20-23

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

Zechariah 3:8***

“‘Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.

Jeremiah 23:5***

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

Zechariah 6:11-12***

Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jozadak. Tell him this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the Lord. ***[The name of the Branch is Yeshua (or Yehoshua) which means “Yahwey Saves” in Hebrew and it is translated to “Joshua” or “Jesus” in English.]

Matthew 2:1-6

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Micah 5:2

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

Genesis 49:10

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.

Matthew 2:13-15

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Hosea 11:1-2

“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. But the more they were called,
the more they went away from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images.

Matthew 2:16-18

When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

Jeremiah 31:15

This is what the Lord says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

Matthew 11:9-11

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Malachi 3:1

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

Matthew 12:6-7

I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.

Hosea 6:6

For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

Matthew 12:39-40

He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Matthew 16:4

A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

Jonah 1:17-2:1

Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.

Jonah 2:7-10

“When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you,
to your holy temple. “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God...
