Chapter 11: The Definition of Knowledge

I am to write about only the universes that I live in. There may be many universes in existence. However, only the universes that I live in are of any concern to me. There may be universes that have eternal gods. There may be universes that have temporal creatures. However, if the eternal gods cannot affect the universes I live in, then to me they do not exist. If the temporal creatures cannot affect the universes I live in, then to me they do not exist. Indeed everything that cannot affect the universes that I live in does not exist. All that exists are things that can affect the universes I live in.

I am to write about only the knowledge that I can obtain. Knowledge is a clear and certain perception of that which exists, or of truth and fact. There can be no knowledge of universes that do not exist. There may be abundant information about universes that do not exist. Such information is not knowledge but a distraction. The pursuit of distractions leads to ignorance if it interferes with the pursuit of knowledge. The pursuit of distractions leads to error if it caused me to forsake knowledge. All information about universes that do not exist is not knowledge but rather a distraction. There may be an abundant amount of information available. However, if the information is not knowledge, then it is useless to me.

I am to write about the knowledge that I can obtain. There may be much knowledge of existence. However the knowledge that I can obtain is all that concerns me. Of the knowledge of God, some can be obtained. I am to write about the knowledge that I can obtain. There may be much knowledge of existence. However the knowledge that I can obtain is all that concerns me. Of the knowledge of God, some can be obtained.

The knowledge I can obtain can only be obtained in the present even if the knowledge was first revealed in the past. Indeed, I can only learn about the past through what I can observe in the present. I can observe my senses and thoughts in the present, and I can recall my past memories with my present thoughts. I can recall my past memories only if they were recorded in an accessible location. Indeed, if my past memories were not recorded or are not accessible, then I cannot recall them. The knowledge that I can obtain is in the form of records. Some knowledge is recorded in my mind. Some knowledge is recorded in books. Some knowledge is recorded in the temporal universe I live in. Therefore I can only obtain knowledge if I choose to access the records available. I am to write about the knowledge that I can obtain. There may be much knowledge of existence. However the knowledge that I can obtain is all that concerns me. Of the knowledge of God, some can be obtained.

The limitations of my knowledge are only two. The knowledge contained in the records available to me is the first limitation. The knowledge in the current records is partially incomplete. Many of my memories were never recorded or are lost to me in the present. Many of the people who have lived died without recording all their knowledge or the records of that knowledge have been lost. Much of the evidence of the past records has been destroyed through natural processes. Indeed memories, people, and evidence are knowledge but many of the records are unattainable to me. I am ignorant of the things that are unattainable to me in the present. However, in the future these things might be obtainable if there are records stored where I do not have access to them now. Indeed simply because a record is currently unattainable, that does not make the record irrelevant. The record will only be irrelevant if it is never to be obtainable in the future. Therefore all records that can be obtainable in the future are relevant to the present.

The limitations of my knowledge are only two. The knowledge I choose to access in the current records is the second limitation. There may be much knowledge that is unavailable to me because the records are lost to me in the present. However some of these lost records might be preserved in copies that will be available in the future. There is knowledge in these records that have been shielded from me for a time, and they may affect me later. However in the present it is futile to speculate about the records available to me in the future. I can only plan in the present how to access the records available to me. My failure to plan how to access the record available to me is the source of the preservation of my ignorance. Indeed, I was born ignorant. For until I have obtained all knowledge I still have ignorance. The fact that I have ignorance is not something to be ashamed of. The choice to preserve my ignorance is all the cause for much shame. For sometimes I choose not to plan how to access the records available to me. I sometimes fail to obtain the records that re within my reach. I sometimes fail to analyze the records that are within my comprehension. I choose to do so when I flatter myself with pride in valuing my present state of the knowledge and failing to improve my future state. I reject the records and knowledge that insults my vanity in my present state. I choose to mistake pride and vanity for knowledge and this is a willful choice to preserve my ignorance. I love willful ignorance more than knowledge and when I lie to myself saying this is not true, I fail to test the lie with the record of my true thoughts and actions. I tell myself I love knowledge more than ignorance even when my thoughts and actions say otherwise. I rationalize the disparity between the truth and my lies with an excuse, an exception, an advantageous reason why my lies are more correct and the truth is mistaken. I reject the truth because it conflicts with my lies. My lies are more trustworthy than the records. I fabricated my lies and tell myself that if I cannot trust myself, then I choose to trust nothing. I tell myself I love knowledge more than ignorance. My lies are knowledge and the records mislead people into ignorance (hopefully you can identify the devil’s advocate). This is what I tell myself when I mistake pride and vanity for knowledge; and this willful choice preserves my ignorance. But it is not a choice, it is just who I am, and I am perfect just as I am. This is what I tell myself when I flatter myself by pride in valuing my present state over the knowledge that could have improved my future state. It is my choices that determine my future state, but it is knowledge that guides choices and gives the confidence to make the choices. Without knowledge there is no knowledge of the alternative choice. Without knowledge, there is no confidence to make the difficult beneficial choice. Without knowledge I would naturally make the easy choice by default regardless of whether it was beneficial or destructive. Without knowledge I would naturally choose short-term advantage that may result in longer term destruction as the byproduct. Without knowledge I do not know what a byproduct is and cannot comprehend adverse side-effects. With knowledge, I can plan to choose to escape long term destruction and choose not to create adverse side effects that lead to my own suffering. For not all pain is suffering. Pain that leads to long term benefit is discipline. With knowledge, I can learn discipline. With knowledge I can learn to choose short-term disadvantage that results in long term benefit. When I was without knowledge, I was a slave to the short term advantage that leads to destruction. With knowledge I am now a servant to my long-term benefit.

What is the knowledge that I can obtain? A single book could not contain it. I will therefore only record the pertinent knowledge that acts as a foundation and a guide that leads to the rest of knowledge founded in the vast stores of records, past, present and future. For indeed there are records of the past that have been preserved for my knowledge. Indeed there are records in the present that can be measured for my knowledge. Indeed there is light in the future that will be accessible to me although it is shielded from me now by time. There are the vast stores of records past, present, and future. Records can easily be copied and preserved; even if the original is destroyed. There is knowledge of many forms. There is knowledge of what was, what is, and what is to come. There is knowledge of how the knowledge came to be known. There is knowledge of alternative choices. There is knowledge of the consequences of alternative choices. There is knowledge of catalysts and factors that prompt or deter choices. There is knowledge of what can be known. There is knowledge of what cannot be known. There is knowledge of what other people mistake to be knowledge. There is knowledge of what other people know. There is knowledge of how people learn knowledge. There is knowledge of information. There is knowledge of how to generate information. There is knowledge of how people mistake information for knowledge. There is knowledge of why people mistake information for knowledge. There is knowledge of what people experience. There is knowledge of what people think. There is knowledge of what people believe. There is knowledge of people’s preferences. There is knowledge of how people preferences are formed. There is knowledge of what people want to be true. There is knowledge of what is false. There is knowledge of what people trust. There is knowledge of why people trust or distrust. There is knowledge about why people accept or reject knowledge.

I am to write about the universes that I live in. The temporal universe I live in is not an isolated universe. The temporal universe I live in is not eternal, although it is linked to a universe that is eternal. The temporal universe I currently live in is bound by time and changes in time. It had a beginning and it has an expanse. There are conditions in the universe that were not cause by other conditions in the universe. There are a set of rules that govern the universe. There are a set of fundamental conditions. The set of rules in the universe were created by another eternal universe. The fundamental conditions in the universe are created by another universe that is eternal. The eternal universe has authority over the temporal universe. The eternal universe has the power to influence the temporal universe by determining the fundamental conditions. The fundamental conditions are conditions that are not determined by the previous conditions in the universe. The fundamental conditions include the initial conditions at the beginning of the universe. The fundamental conditions also include the conditions at the edge of the universe. The fundamental conditions also include the seemingly spontaneous conditions at the atomic level. While there are three possible fundamental conditions (initial, boundary, and quantum), it may be revealed that they are all the same type of condition from different perspectives. The eternal universe is not bound by perspective, but the temporal universe is bound by perspective. The temporal universe I live in in was created by the eternal universe, which set both the rules of the temporal universe and the fundamental conditions of the temporal universe. The fundamental conditions of our temporal universe were created in such a manner to allow life to develop, complex life to develop, intelligent life to develop, and sentient life to develop. I am sentient, capable of free will choices. These choices I am responsible for. Although I live in in the temporal universe, my sentience comes from the eternal universe. It is my sentience in the eternal universe that sets the fundamental conditions of the universe which implements my choices.

For although the body I live in now within this temporal universe is mortal, my sentience that controls my choices resides within the eternal universe and is eternal. Indeed the choices I make in the temporal universe are merely a projection or shadow image of the choices my sentience makes in the eternal universe. For indeed the entire temporal universe is just a shadow of the eternal universe. The rules and fundamental conditions of the temporal universe were created by the eternal universe and are preserved eternally. The temporal universe is therefore just an interface in the same way a computer can act as the interface between two people in the temporal world. In the same way that a computer can copy and preserve actions on it, all the fundamental conditions of the universe have a copy within the eternal universe.

Knowledge is a clear and certain perception of that which exists, or of truth and fact; the perception of the connection and agreement, or disagreement and repugnancy of our ideas.

Error is a wandering or deviation from the truth; a mistake in judgment, by which men assent to or believe what is not true. Error may be voluntary, or involuntary. Voluntary, when men neglect or pervert the proper means to inform the mind; involuntary, when the means of judging correctly are not in their power. An error committed through carelessness or haste is a blunder.

Ignorance is want, absence or destitution of knowledge; the negative state of the mind which has not been instructed in arts, literature or science, or has not been informed of facts. Ignorance may be general, or it may be limited to particular subjects. Ignorance of the law does not excuse a man for violating it. Ignorance of facts is often venial. Ignorance is preferable to error. Knowledge is preferable to ignorance.
