NY Governor Kathy Hochul Is Giving Healthcare Including Dental to "Sex Workers"

Gov. Kathy Hochul's administration has unveiled a controversial new program aimed at supporting sex workers by providing them with free health care services. The "sex worker health pilot program" will offer primary, sexual, and behavioral health care, along with dental services, to sex workers in New York City and western New York. The state Health Department of Health has allocated $1 million in public funds over two years to support this initiative.

However, critics argue that the program is a misguided step towards decriminalizing prostitution. Some lawmakers, like state Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R-Staten Island), voiced their concerns, calling the program antithetical to societal norms. They fear that such taxpayer-funded support for sex workers may be perceived as an endorsement of vice and send the wrong message about the state's stance on prostitution.

The program's launch without prior approval from the state Legislature has also sparked controversy. The debate over whether this initiative will effectively discourage or inadvertently encourage prostitution remains a point of contention among lawmakers and citizens alike.
