Although it's unsightly, the sun-damaged parts of your citrus and other plants protect the rest of the plant from further damage. Newly pruned areas are more likely to suffer sun damage. Now is not the time to prune.
Wait to prune damaged areas or cut the plant back until temperatures begin to cool in the fall.
