The RMS Olympic, just three years after the loss of her sister ship, the Titanic, became a warship during World War I. The British government stripped her of her peacetime fittings and armed her with 12-pounders and 4.7-inch guns. She was converted into a troopship and painted in dazzle camouflage. Her name was changed to HMT Olympic. During the war, she transported more than 200,000 soldiers from Canada and the United States to Europe. She also helped rescue survivors of the HMS Audacious, which had struck a mine in 1914.
