James Wilkinson was an American soldier, politician, and double agent who was associated with several scandals and controversies. He served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, but he was twice compelled to resign. He also was involved in the Conway Cabal against George Washington and the failed overtaking of the western part of Louisiana with then Vice-President Aaron Burr.
