French fashion powerhouse, the House of Worth (1858-), has its roots in a small British market town in Lincolnshire. Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895) turned his fashion house from a royalty and nobility dressmaker to a brand making dress patterns available to everyone. Worth's focus on native plants and animals, as well as local fabrics, made each dress one-of-a-kind. The Worths kept the fashion house in the family until 1956. The brand was revived in 1999 and House of Worth perfume can be purchased today. Due to the massive amount of work (300 dresses for one customer!) Gilded Age Worth gowns can still be purchased today.
