Thrifting in the Mountains: Finding Great Deals on Antiques & Vintage Items!

I love getting to see places in person that most people miss! St. Regis, Montana is a little mountain resort town with a fun, weird thrift store and a fun, quality antique store where lodge style and Victorian furnishings suitable for the Duttons are for sale every day!Show more

This town is a long-established stop for me on my driving trips west, in part because they also have a lot of fun small antique and vintage items, and occasionally a screaming deal on something that doesn't fit their milieu! That's how a great Bjorn Winblad figural egg cup ends up costing $3 (and that's at the swanky big antique store), and a black basalt signed vase at the thrift shop only $8.

We don't have time for mini golf at the thrift store (winner gets 50% off?), but we take lots of time to explore "A Place of Antiques," where furniture is shelving and shelves are full of bodacious Early American beverage sets, crocks and stoneware, pastel pottery and Fiesta Ware. Pin-ups and 1920s litho prints, buttons and pinbacks, even costume jewelry...we find some deals, and see how this place continues to maintain great quality, true antiques and vintage to draw collectors from all over the Northwest to this tiny town!

We even show a glimpse into their back room where they restore and refurbish furniture on site, explaining how they've maintained such an amazing supply of solid American Victorian oak and walnut, stick-and-ball furniture, antique office and counters that would outfit a new antique store nicely. After a look at an annex filled with 1920s Monitor-Top fridges and discounted DIY antique furniture, we head down the road to our last stop in the Rockies, where millions of dollars await us!
