Sony PCM Tape Machine (The Earliest 48 Track DAW)

Just a quick HDR video of a 48 Track Sony PCM digital Tape machine from the mid 1980s. Sony PCM-3348HR allowed you to work with digital tape the same way you did with analog tape even splicing with a razor blade. It is quite a neat machine for it's time. It was a better system than ADAT or DAT because of the large track count on a single 1/2 inch reel of tape. It would have taken 6 DAT/ADAT machines to get the same 48 tracks of audio. Plus you lose 1 track on each DAT/ADAT machine to SMPTE timecode so the chances of failure was obvious.
