Joseph brought Simeon back out to his brothers. Once again Joseph sent his brothers off with their containers filled with grain and secretly returned their money bags. However, this time Joseph had his golden goblet secretly put in Benjamin’s bags to test them. As his brothers were leaving, He accused them of stealing his goblet. Joseph told them whosever bag the goblet was found in would be punished. Joseph said that all the brothers could leave, but Benjamin must remain as his slave. Judah told Joseph to take him as a slave instead and let Benjamin go.

Joseph reveals to his brothers that he is their brother Joseph. Joseph kissed his brothers and cried over each of them. Joseph had them bring back their father Jacob (Israel) so that they could settle in the land of Goshen. There had been only 2 years of famine and there would be 5 more years of famine. Jacob (Israel) and all of his descendants migrated to Egypt, who were about 70 people total.

The Pharaoh asked Jacob (Israel) how old he was. Jacob (Israel) to the Pharaoh that he was 130 years old. Jacob (Israel) and his descendants settled in the region of Rameses, which is the region of Goshen.

When people ran out of money, they eventually sold their livestock, their land, and themselves as slaves in exchange for food. Joseph then made it a law that from then on only a fifth of the produce would go to Pharaoh. Jacob (Israel) made Joseph swear that Jacob (Israel) would not be buried in Egypt, but would be buried with his ancestors in their ancestral burial place.

Jacob (Israel) says that the descendants of his grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh will be counted as the descendants of Reuben and Simeon. This was to honor Rachael by giving her two more tribes. The descendants of any other children of Joseph will be counted as his own descendants. Rachael had previously died during a journey to Canaan. Jacob (Israel) buried her on the way to Ephrath, Bethlehem. Jacob (Israel) places his right hand on Manasseh and says the younger brother will surpass the older brother, and his descendants will become a multitude of nations. Jacob (Israel) gave his blessing to his twelve tribes of Israel, which were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Joseph, and Benjamin. Jacob (Israel) asked to be buried in the cave in the field of Mechpelah, facing Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field that Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite. Jacob’s sons did as he instructed.

Jacob-Israel was 147 years old when he died, which was 27 years after Isaac died, which was 84 years after Ishmael died, which was 97 years after Shem died, which was 132 years after Abraham died, which was 170 years after Sarah died, which was 208 years after Abraham made the covenant of circumcision with God, which was 221 years after Ishmael was born, which was 232 years after Abraham left Haram and migrated to Canaan, which was 249 years after Noah died, which was 599 years after the flood started, which was 2228 years after Adam was created.

Jacob-Israel was 91 years old when Joseph was born, which was 76 years after Abraham died, which was 111 years after Isaac married Rebekah, which was 152 years after Abraham made the covenant of circumcision with God, which was 165 years after Ishmael was born, which was 176 years after Abraham left Haram and migrated to Canaan, which was 193 years after Noah died, which was 543 years after the flood started, which was 2199 years after Adam was created.
