LIVE: Island of Rhodes in Greece as firefighting of wildfire outbreaks continue

Live from Malonas on the island of Rhodes on Monday, July 24, as evacuation works from the areas affected by wildfires continue.

The fires, caused by extremely high temperatures, broke out on the island last week and forced thousands of people from their homes and hotel accommodations.

Evacuation takes place from the areas close to Lindos, Lardos, Kiotari and other villages and resorts on the southeastern coast to Plimmyri and other less affected areas in the southern areas.

Local fire brigades and supporters from the Slovakian firefighting service work on extinguishing the fires, ongoing across the island due to new outbreaks fanned by strong winds.

Local media have reported the hottest July in 50 years with temperatures up to 45 °C (113 °F).
