S#%t Happens: A Disgusting but Necessary Boat Project | SV Ramble On
Welcome back to our channel, where we tackle the less glamorous, yet crucial tasks of boat maintenance. Today, get ready to witness one of the more "interesting" jobs as we dive into rebuilding our waste pump.
Join us as we roll up our sleeves and embark on the adventure of disassembling the old, gunked-up waste pump. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's a crucial aspect of keeping our boat in top shape.
First, we'll carefully remove the old diaphragm and joker valve, the usual culprits behind the malfunctioning toilet. We'll show you what to look for and how to handle these components with care.
Once the old parts are out, we'll install the new diaphragm and joker valve. These replacements are essential for ensuring proper functionality and preventing any unwelcome surprises while at sea.
With the pump rebuilt, we'll reinstall the pump, so you can witness the successful resurrection of our trusty toilet. After all, a reliable toilet is a must-have for any seafarer!
Although it may not be the most glamorous boat project, maintaining the waste pump is vital for the well-being of both the crew and the marine environment. Plus, it's a valuable skill for any boat owner to master.
So, if you're up for a slightly stomach-churning yet educational journey into boat maintenance, hit that play button and don't forget to subscribe for more nautical adventures! Fair winds and clean seas! 🌊⚓️

We’re Jeni and Rich. We’re really just a couple of average Joes. In a nutshell we met and married in our early 20s; I graduated from college in my late 20s; adopted two cats and a dog in the late 90s; sold a house and bought a new house in our mid 30s; then sold the new house and moved onto a sailboat in our early 40s. In between all that we had a bunch of fun like camping, scuba diving, watching hockey games (Go Red Wings!), concerts, traveling, spear fishing, restoring a 1963 Chevy II Nova; spending time with family and friends. A few years ago we decided to lay off all the fun-having to fix up this old boat. We figure if we put our noses to the grindstone for a few years, we’ll be able to travel for a few years and do all the fun things we’ve missed.
