A Spotless Sun Brings Aurora: Solar Storm Forecast 07-25-2018
Space weather this week remains active even though we are experiencing solar minimum-like conditions. A massive coronal hole moves through the Earth-strike zone and is sending fast solar wind our way, which has bumped us up to active conditions already several times and brought aurora to mid-latitudes briefly. Expect more chances for aurora over the next 24 hours. Amateur radio operators are dealing with poor propagation due to some of the lowest solar flux we have seen all cycle and these conditions will likely continue over the next week. The good news is that this low solar flux means GPS/GNSS users should enjoy decent reception on Earth's dayside. Learn more about the ongoing solar storm, when radio operators can expect a reprieve, and what else the Sun has in store this week.
