Aurora Frontside, Backside Spots: Solar Storm Forecast 09-07-2018

The first of two chances for aurora is upon us now as the first of two coronal holes we will encounter this week has rotated into the Earth-strike zone. Aurora photographers should be thrilled, as we have multiple chances for light shows at high latitudes and a good possibility for brief aurora down to mid-latitudes. Radio propagation remains poor due to the spotless Sun, but active regions on the Sun's backside hint that a reprieve may be coming in about two weeks. Learn the details of the two expected solar storms from fast solar wind, catch up on more aurora photos from the recent monster solar storm just a week ago, and see why dayside GPS reception should be great this week.
