HEADBANGERS BALL E10-Barracks, Booze, and the Covert Roll

Welcome to Tompkins Barracks, Building 4243, this is a photo of the barracks I'd lived in. We had the best parties, we were the kings of the barracks, we were the guys that everyone wanted to hang out with. And, we were that set of soldiers the First Sergeant told FNGs aka Fuckin New Guys "These are my troublemakers, stay clear of them!" We'd then bring the FNGs to Barracks Court and find them guilty of not drinking! From the Barracks to Metal Clubs with names like, The Out, The Underground, The Zoo, Uncle Sams and our favorite, Der Schwimmbad were frequently attended with copius amounts of alcohol and being stinkasfuckstank, while running that booze out of our systems during PT. The Brothers I've made while in the Army, we stay in touch daily. We're family. And when it came to The Pit, a bar fight, a parking lot brawl, we had each other's back. We were a rowdy bunch back then.

And...when parties happened in the barracks, we had the best sound systems, the best music, the best fun for all who attended. And...we also played a lot of drinking games. 3-Man was a favorite booze game of ours and that is where the famous phrase, "Covert roll!" came from.

A long and funny story. I'll have to get the guys together and we just may give you a "Life in the Tribe" fireside chat.

Until that time happens, The Ball is a weekly show of the greatest heavy music we've all grown up with. I'm GenX. When I was a kid, Headbanger's Ball was our Saturday Night Party. Jean and leather jackets with all of favorite bands were worn proudly watching rock and metal videos in the 80's until MTV went and bent us over in '95. I was at Ft. Bragg when this happened. We were crushed. It's how us married folk celebrated the weekend before heading out to whatever trouble we decided to get ourselves into.

MTV, and their low IQ mentality, left us with other shows that just weren't The Ball.

So, with that said, put on your best, get ready for the ruckus, tell your friend to hold your beer, get in that pit and lose your fuckin' mind! THIS IS...HEADBANGERS BALL!
