A Coronal Hole Triple Play: Solar Storm Forecast 08-01-2019
This Solar Storm Forecast is sponsored in part by 3ric Johanson: http://instagram.com/scubist
This week we have a set of three coronal holes rotating into the Earth-strike zone. The fast wind they send could bring aurora easily to high latitudes and possibly a few glimpses at mid-latitudes. We are already feeling the effects from the first burst of fast wind, but its pretty minor thus far. We should expect unsettled conditions with sporadic storming, especially at high latitudes over the next day or so before things will settle down a bit. The next burst of fast wind could come near week's end. Amateur radio and emergency responders are still dealing with dismal solar flux, which means radio propagation continues to be poor on Earth's dayside. With STEREO showing no signs of new bright regions on the Sun's backside, it looks like these poor radio propagation conditions will continue easily over the next week as well. At least GPS users should have excellent GPS reception, except near aurora and the dawn-dusk terminators during the solar storm. See the details of the coronal hole triple play and learn what else our Sun has in store.
