EP-2 “Carquals – 1970 | F-9 x-Country to ELP” is the 2nd 8mm reel and contains footage from about May-June 1970 as judged from the log books. There is no voice to go with it. A large part of it was shot between May 18- 26, 1970 during FCL qualifications presumably at Kingsville, and at sea on the USS Lexington (CVT-16) likely somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. There are 10 flights logged on those dates totaling 29 FCLs (May 18-25), 6 traps & cat shots, 2 T&G and 1 “Bolter” (May 26). The 8mm you see is completely uncut by me, this is how it came off the reel as edited by my father - “Mad Duck”

Cobra explains the land-based practice “Field Carrier Landing” system (FCL) that we see first, and then all the carrier operations we see in the second half. He has some great reactions, “feedback” for some of the pilots , and a great story about landing an experimental plane on a carrier when he was at the Navy Test Pilot School in Pax River.

“well… ya gotta land on the carrier, if you can’t land on the carrier, you’re not gonna make it” – S. Queen
