Workers in Porthmadog, North Wales, used a unique method #viral

In 1935, quarry workers in Porthmadog, North Wales, used a unique method for descending from the top of the quarry without additional energy. They employed a specially designed board with wheels, including a large wheel beneath it and two smaller wheels at the front, along with an outrigger arm.

To control the descent speed and prevent collisions, a brake system was implemented, where workers collectively regulated the speed by placing their hands on a lever connected to a braking mechanism.
