MZTV 1263: Athenians Just Want to Hear Something New

I was first introduced eight years ago to the theory that the book of Revelation was not inspired and therefore does not belong in Scripture. Whacking Revelation out of Scripture is akin to deleting the satisfying conclusions off of every novel ever written and every film ever produced. Revelation answers Genesis at every point.

Dr. Bullinger, through his publication of the supernatural STRUCTURES in the Word of God, has proven that the book of the Unveiling of Jesus Christ (Revelation) not only belongs in Scripture, but is the satisfying resolution to promises and problems introduced in Genesis. According to Dr. Bullinger, "Revelation cannot be understood apart from Genesis, and Genesis cannot be understood apart from Revelation."

In addition, I delve briefly into the Tory problem, that is, into those who do not believe in the pre-existence of Christ. I reiterate here the remarkable fact that while the Tories have not a single verse supporting their position, they prattle on as though they have hundreds.

Uniting these two themes (the excising the book of the Unveiling and the denial of the pre-existence of Christ) is the phenomenon of the Athenians (the Epicurian and Stoic philosophers) addressed by Paul on Mars Hill in Acts chapter 17, who "had opportunity for nothing different than to be saying something or hearing something newer" (verse 21). I contend that Athenianism is alive and well in the body of Christ today, witnessed by a dissatisfaction with established truth and a troubling desire to lend an open ear and mind to whatever offbeat, "Biblical" theory presents itself. That such morbid curiosity often disguises itself as Bereanism, or "noble seeking" warrants its exposure as a danger to the saints. Our apostle was similarly vexed by the Athenianism of his day, insisting that the saints be rooted and grounded in the truth, immoveable—the opposite of being blown about by every wind of teaching.
