An Earth-Directed Stealthy Solar Storm Launches Amid Flare Players | Space Weather News 09.24.2022

This week activity ramps up dramatically on our Sun. Things are changing quite quickly including several new big flare players, some gorgeous eruptive eye candy, and a stealthy Earth-directed solar storm launch. All of this is occurring while a coronal hole rotates through the Earth-strike zone, sending us some fast solar wind and bumping us to active conditions. Along with the stealthy solar storm that could reach us sometime late on the 26th or early into the 27th, we could see solar storm levels by early next week. This means aurora photographers, especially at high latitudes could get a decent show. Amateur radio operators should expect good, albeit noisy radio propagation on Earth's dayside, while GPS users should expect reception issues near dawn and dusk and at low latitudes in the afternoon. Both radio amateurs and GPS users should stay on the alert for disruptions due to radio blackouts on the dayside and due to aurora on Earth's nightside over the next few days. Watch the gorgeous eruptive eye candy, learn more about the Earth-directed stealthy solar storm and the aurora it could bring, and see what else our Sun has in store this week.
