Finally, our Sun wakes up a bit with some big flares and an Earth-directed solar storm this week. Although the flares have been short and bursty, they have caused a number of short-duration radio backouts on Earth's dayside. The main culprits of all this activity are regions 3140 and 3141 and they show no signs of stopping. In addition, they have launched at least one mini-solar storm that is Earth directed. Most of it will go south of Earth, but it should give us a glancing blow by November 15. Lean the details of the coming solar storm, see when and where aurora is and will be visible, find out why amateur radio operators and GPS users are enduring some minor disruptions on Earth's dayside, and see what else our Sun holds in store this week.
