Police Officer Anthony Ferguson, Alamogordo Police Department, New Mexico - End of Watch Sunday, July 2, 2023, Police Officer Anthony Ferguson died from a gunshot wound he sustained while chasing a subject who ran from a car accident at 2:18 am.

Officers tried to stop a driver who was operating without headlights or taillights. However, when the driver sped off, they refrained from pursuing it. The car later crashed into a pole about a mile away at First Street and Delaware Avenue. The driver then ran away on foot. Officer Ferguson gave chase, and the subject retaliated by firing a shotgun at him, hitting him in the face. Another officer managed to shoot the subject in the leg.

Emergency services air-lifted Officer Ferguson to UMC El Paso, where he died from his wounds the next day.

Medical personnel treated the subject at the hospital. Authorities have now charged him with Attempt to Commit 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer with a Deadly Weapon, Tampering with Evidence, Aggravated Fleeing of a Police Officer, Resisting and Evading a Police Officer, Criminal Trespass, Lights Required on Vehicle, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Reckless Driving. This subject had shot at officers previously, in January 2023.

Officer Ferguson worked for the Alamogordo Police Department for 11 years. He leaves his daughter, son, mother, father, and four brothers behind him.
