Long time ago I played the first iteration of Zeri's AP build which was just Kai'Sa W spam basically. A lot of people hated it saying it was unskilled and brain-dead but it was the most fun I've had in league since Gunblade was removed. Now with the resurrection of Stattik Shiv a new AP build has formed. the build basically just focuses on Zeri's incredibly high charged auto attack and ult scalings.

The main difference between the new and old build is S.Shiv, this item allows you to consistently clear waves, proc first strike, and charge your Zap. This is an upgrade from the original AD item in AP Zeri builds: Manamune. Shiv gives attack speed and crit, none of which Manamune had while also being a cheaper and quicker spike due to Manamune's stacking nature.

With this build you no longer need to spam W for damage, relying on Zeri's on-hit E damage and ZAP attack to trade. This means your mana costs are significantly lower removing the need for Manamune AND lost chapter items giving access to Protobelt or Night Harvester for more damage.
