Ukraine Armed Forces ambushed in the town of Nikolaevka | Ukraine 2022

Ukrainian soldiers made another attempt at a counteroffensive south of Bakhmut but they were ambushed by Russian troops.

As a result of this incident, 17 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were taken prisoner by Russian forces. The failed counter-offensive at Nikolaevka is known as Mala Tokmachka. Atempts to attack at least a dozen locations, including Nikolaevka, have failed because the Russian troops were prepared for it.

Ukraine has suffered heavy losses in equipment and men, including US-supplied MRAP armored personnel vehicles. Ukrainian troops have faced stiff resistance from Russian forces, who have dug into defensive lines that are several layers deep in some areas.
