We look at what is happening at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Nigeria. The Tribunal is looking into the case brought by Abubakar Atiku and Peter Obi, challenging the declaration of Tinubu as winner of the election.

They argue that Tinubu did not fulfill the requirement of 25% votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. They argue that Tinubu ought not have been declared the winner because he did not fulfill this constitutional requirement.

Tinubu has argued that he did not need to score 25% of the votes in Abuja. He further declared, through his lawyers, that if he were removed from office by the Tribunal, it would result in chaos and anarchy in Nigeria.

Our position here is that this is scare-mongering. If the Tribunal orders his removal, he should vacate office.
