Bill C-18 MIGHT Be Good Thanks To Incompetence From Trudeau, Pablo Rodriguez, And The Liberals | Nat

Canadian Bill C-18 or the 'Online News Act' was passed into law on June 22. This would have imposed a 'link tax' on any news links shared on social media and other platforms, effectively forcing companies to pay for the sharing of Canadian news.
However, thanks to the lack of understanding of how the internet works by the bill's main sponsor, Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez (and by the rest of the Liberal Justin Trudeau cabinet) they may have turned the negatives into positives.
Google and Meta called the government's bluff and have now stopped the sharing and promoting of mainstream Canadian news on their platforms, which opens up the space for many different sources of news for Canadian people rather than the state sponsored media they've become used to. This means that Canadian people now have the opportunity to discover different perspectives that were censored and unaccessible before.

And as a cherry on top, to 'punish' these platforms, Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez has stopped all government advertising on social media, which means less propaganda from the Liberal government on our feeds.
