Share. Subscribe. Computer Memory Systems I invented in 1988 and 1990. The first used the principles of telephones and the second one used the principles of scanning tunneling microscopes and floppy disks. The 1st used a line 186K miles long folded onto a 1/4 inch square chip and pulsed 1 trillion times. 8 bits = a byte. So divide 1 trillion by 8 = 125 billion bytes. The 2nd used a needle tip 1 billionth of an inch in diameter to punch holes in a surface of an electrically conductive surface 3 inches in diameter.
