Spearfishing Mangrove Snapper & Cero Mackeral

This footage is from 2 weeks ago before my boat engine broke down, so don't think it's fixed just yet! The first day we drove out to the Atlantic ready to go spearfishing, but the weather just kept getting worse. The radar showed some large clouds forming so we head back home. The next day was blue sky and we were ready to spearfish!

My boat is a 236cc Key Largo Center Console w/ a 200HP Mercury Saltwater Series.
They no longer make these boats and she's a classic forever and ever.

We head out of Key Largo to 30-40 feet of water and start chumming. The past videos we've been spearfishing in 10-20 feet of water and decided it's time to go a little deeper. The only problem was the current was ripping hard so it quickly turned into an exhausting feat. Also, anytime I dove deeper than 30 feet I had a sharp pain on my tooth nerve from a filling I recently received. I guess there is a air pocket or something causing the pressure so i'll have to go back to the dentist.

We pull the anchor and start to drift back to the more shallow waters. On the drift I spot a mangrove snapper and take my shot. Nailed it! This made me happy because before the trip I had already decided I was craving mangrove snapper for dinner. And boy did we have an amazing dinner. The cooked mangrove snapper pictures are at the end of the video.

The next fish I shoot is a barracuda. I will be using it for bait on a future deep drop video. I also scale the barracuda to attract more fish to the boat and sure enough it worked. It wasn't long before a Cero Mackeral came swimming by to check out the action.

Beata isn't a big fan of Cero Mackeral, or any mackeral in that case because they are much more oily and 'fishy' tasting compared to whiter meat fish like the snapper. I gut the Cero Mackeral and rip it's gills out. This makes them taste much better when cooking them whole.

Overall this was a fun spearfishing trip and I enjoyed everything I saw. If you find anything in this video helpful and had a good time watching it please drop a like and subscribe to the channel.

I have a mechanic coming out to my boat tomorrow so say a prayer for us! I really hope we get the engine running again. Cheers!
