In a historic night, all four musical acting category awards were won by actors and actresses of color. Cynthia Erivo, the best actress in a leading role in a musical award for The Color Purple. Renee Elise Goldsberry, for best actress in a featured role in a musical, Daveed Diggs for best actor in a featured role in a musical, and Leslie Odom Jr. for best actor in a leading role in a musical. The latter winners are all from Hamilton.
