This is my first bee hive and also my first time catching a bee swarm. I learned a lot and excited to learn more about bee's and how to get my own honey from bee's.

This is the original bee hive that reached max capacity so half the bees swarmed off to look for a new place to build a hive. And that swarm
can be seen sitting in the tree right above their original home.

This right here is called a nuke box. It contains 5 of these honey comb racks that the bee's can use for storing eggs, pollen and honey.
We're going to try and capture this swarm and put it inside this box. Eventually the nuke box will go inside of a bigger wooden bee hive box
with more honey comb racks.

Luckily Alec has a forklift. That's going to help a lot getting to this swarm.

Alec trims away some branches to make it easier to get to the swarm.

With the branches out of our way I decide to climb up to get a closer look at the swarm before we try and catch them.

Right now this swarm is protecting the queen which is somewhere inside. Meanwhile there are a handful of drone bee's flying around looking
for a good spot to build their new home. We need to catch the queen and put her in our nuke box before they find a new home and all fly away.

A lot of the bee's still remained on the tree which means we probably didn't get the queen into the box. The swarm will follow the queen so Alec
tries a couple more times to get the queen.

You can see the bee's sticking their butts in the air and fanning their wings at the entrance of the hive. This fanning action blows the fermions
of the queen bee out of the hive and into the air so the rest of the Bee's know where the queen is. Because of the Bees fanning like this we
know we've caught the queen. Now the rest of the bees in the tree will come down to the hive.
We will come back in several hours when it's dark to transport the Bees to my house.

This is a Bee smoker. It's filled with burning wood and leaves to create smoke.

The next morning I see lots of activity. The bee's are already comfortable in their new home. Coming and going on forage missions to bring
fresh pollen back to the hive. The sea grape tree I have right behind the hive has juicy little flowers loaded with pollen and I see the
bees have already found it.

They fill sacks with pollen on their back legs that they bring back to the hive. You can see the pollen right here on this bee. They sure
are working hard. This bee is so excited to get back outside to find more pollen he trips over himself on the way out. You go bees.

My cat Elliot even found the bee hive and approached it with caution. He didn't get stung this time, but hopefully he doesn't learn the
hard way
