Dear Pastor Bob: The Bible tells us to obey the law of the land. How far should we take that? It is technically against the law of the land to drive 5mph over the speed limit, but most of us do it. In most cities, they have a limit as to how many pets you can legally own. We have many more pets than what is legally allowed. Mostly cats and a couple of dogs. Is that violating the Bible’s command to obey the law of the land? I personally do not think it is wrong, immoral, or even a sin to own many pets. But if we have to violate the law of the land to do it, what would God think about that? In my opinion, a house isn’t the place for excess pets. There are barns for that. The reason we have so many cats is because we want to be a sanctuary for them, and provide them a safe place off the streets. Does God honor that? Do you have any thoughts or advice on this?
