Rep. Jayapal faces backlash after calling Israel a ‘racist state’

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) came under fire over the weekend for antisemitic comments she made at the Netroots Nation conference in Chicago, Illinois Saturday. Rep. Jayapal addressed Pro-Palestinian activists who interrupted the panel discussion by emphasizing with their cause. “I want you to know that we have been fighting to make it clear that Israel is a racist state, that the Palestinian people deserve self-determination and autonomy,” said Rep. Jayapal. After top House Democrats signed a statement condemning her comments, Rep. Jayapal posted an apology to Twitter Sunday.
