THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

The psalm 23 of the Book of Psalms states, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures.He leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul.He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

The psalm expresses the satisfaction of the believer in the care of the great Pastor of the universe, the Redeemer and Preserver of men. The shepherd is Jehovah, and a flock of sheep, gentle and harmless, feeding in verdant pastures, under the care of a skilful, watchful, and tender shepherd, forms an emblem of believers brought back to the Shepherd of their souls.
