The death toll from record monsoon rains in South Korea rose to at least 40 on Monday, July 17, local media reported. At least 13 of those killed were recovered from a flooded tunnel in Chungcheong Province, the Chosun Ilbo reported. The death toll was expected to increase as another 15 vehicles remained trapped in the tunnel, the report said.
