Cowboys rumors today are all about contract extension before Cowboys training camp later this month. The Cowboys have one day to get a deal done with Tony Pollard or he will play on the franchise tag. Cowboys Report host Tom Downey explains why it’s far more likely Pollard doesn’t get a new deal and instead plays on the NFL franchise tag.

Tony Pollard news: The 2023 NFL franchise tag extension deadline is tomorrow. If the Cowboys don't get a long-term deal done, Pollard will play on the franchise tag. The expectation seems to be the Cowboys and Pollard will not get a deal done.

Cowboys rumors on a possible Tony Pollard extension have included a hypothetical 3-year, $27 MM deal with $18 MM guaranteed. And while that’s a good deal for Pollard if he were a free agent, he’s already getting $10.1 MM on the franchise tag this year. That means he’d just need to get another $8 MM guaranteed in the NFL free agency market next year for that figure to be eclipsed. Given how short RB shelf lives are, that’s the number to watch.
