“Promotion”

Work too hard, don’t discard all of your hopes and
When in doubt, go all out, stir some commotion
What are you gonna do? I’m getting a notion
Tell the boss, at any cost, you need a promotion

Working toward center stage, clarify what you need
They’re always gonna rattle your cage, so ask and you shall receive
We’re livin’ in the golden age, where those at the top deceive
Filling our hearts with rage, work till we’re weak in the knees

Found a gig...something big, but lacked the desire
All those years, chasing peers, finally got hired
Came and went, time was spent putting out fires
Tenure brief, stress and grief, early retired

Rapidly on decline, worn from the daily grind
Even though the sun does shine, it feels like I’m flying blind
No matter how hard you try, no one will read your mind
Beauty is in the eye, so don’t get into a bind

Years go on...got the sense life is a long ride
Right or wrong, just commence...you’ll land on the right side
Hounded by incompetence, find a new ally
Start things fresh, reinvent the rules you live by
Take a chance, learn to dance and knock over border lines
Meet the one, have some fun, no more of your lies
Things will mesh, circumvent the negative, bad guys
Troubles that came and went, now they’re a far cry

Working toward center stage, clarify what you need
They’re always gonna rattle your cage, so ask and you shall receive
We’re livin’ in the golden age, where those at the top deceive
Filling our hearts with rage, work till we’re weak in the knees
