“The Light in the Darkness”
14th In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. Heed the Light which shines from God’s Word - 2 Peter 1:19
* A. We are living in dark times, a new dark age
* 1. The darkness is from sin and rebellion against God
* 2. Spiritual and intellectual darkness go hand in hand
* B. Jesus is the light of the world - John 1:4-5, 9-10
* 1. The light is given to everyman
* a. Jesus the living Word of God shines in the darkness
* b. The Written Word of God also shines into the darkness
* 2. The deceiver presents himself as light - 2 Cor. 11:13-15 
* 3. Reality is that he is not the light bearer, he only brings untold darkness

II. Jesus is the Dawn and the Morning Star - Revelation 22:16
* A. Jesus is according to the prophet Zacharias is “the dayspring from on high” - Luke 1:78
* B. The First Advent was God’s initial message of things to come
* C. The Second Advent will bring the fulfillment of all the promises
* 1. The morning star is the harbinger of the coming day
* 2. The Second Advent brings the eternal kingdom to fulfillment in all its physical nature
* a. The Kingdom of Christ is here and now in the hearts of true disciples - Luke 17:21
* b. All the prophecies regarding its physical realities must be fulfilled - Isaiah 11:4-9
* D. The need of the hour is that Jesus rise in our hearts
* 1. A personal relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior
* 2. The Bible as your constant companion as we fight the darkness with the light of Christ
