The fit of the Ultimate Direction Mens Race Vest Signature Series 5.0 is perfect for me, and I have had no issues using it in rainy or muddy conditions.
The lightweight design of the pack is excellent, making it comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I have previously owned three Nathan vests, which have performed well for me.
However, the material of the UD vest seemed like it would be better at not holding sweat, which is important for running in hot temperatures. I have found that it does a great job at wicking away moisture.
Although the vest is lightweight, it still provides enough storage for longer runs or even ultras. I did have some initial issues with the fit, as it didnt seem to stay in one place despite the back synch straps.
However, after making a few modifications, it now stays in place much better. One aspect of the vest that I found frustrating was the location of the whistle.
It tended to get in the way and wouldnt stay out of the pockets. I ended up cutting it off and putting it in a pocket instead. I also initially had some trouble with the bottles bouncing quite a bit.
However, I was able to resolve this issue by adjusting and fastening some snaps and straps differently than they were intended. Now, the bottles stay securely in place.
Overall, the vest is nice and cool to wear, which is great for hot weather conditions. It provides plenty of storage, and once you figure out the best way to adjust the fit, it is a reliable option for trail running.
However, I do anticipate switching back to my other vests once the weather cools off.
