One of the most significant cultural events of the year few people know about, especially in their tourism plans for South Dakota occurs each year during the first week of August; perhaps because it coincides with the opening week of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Bikers, you don't know what you are missing! Why not include the powwow in your vacation plans? The Oglala Lakota Nation can use your financial support as they are on the poorest native American counties in America; yet their cultural heritage deserves more recognition.

The Annual Oglala Lakota Nation Wacipi & Rodeo Fair happens this year on Thursday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 6 2023 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Southwestern South Dakota.

The Oglala Lakota Nation Wacipi & Rodeo Fair takes place at the powwow grounds in Pine Ridge. Wacipi grand entries begin on Friday at 7 P.M. There are daily flag raisings at 9 A.M., and two meals are provided daily. There is a parade at 11 A.M. on Saturday. INFR rodeo performances take place at 6 P.M. on Friday and 2 P.M. on Saturday. There is also a youth rodeo at 10 A.M. on Thursday. Admission is $5 in advance and $10 at the gate (those aged 60 & over and 6 & under are free). Macs Carnival will also be on the grounds (rides not included in admission).
